More news - I had a PM from one of the staff at Khalidine. Vekin says that Khalidine is "pretty much dead in the water". He has offered to recommend some other PW, if anyone is interested.

Hey Dave,
Apparently GF is going to be a daddy. So there won't be too much happening at Khalidine in terms of him.
As for dead in the water, the only problem that there is would be the lack of players. It hasn't taken off and gained the momentum of an active player base. It is quite strange as it is one of the most advanced PW out there in terms of tools and features. And it is very well crafted.
If you can recruit a group to play with, you will enjoy it. If not, something else may suit you better.
If I would make an educated guess, I'd say Vekin suggested Baldurs Gate. ;)

Hi, Banshe,
You're right, he did recommend Baldur's Gate, http://bgtscc.fomwaa.com/ and also recommended Sundren http://www.sundren.org/ I'm in the middle of a mod right now, but will have a look at them in a bit. Any others you like? |

Those are both good choices.
Khalidine is good in terms of design. Baldur's Gate is good in terms of number of players. And it is not too xenophobic like some other servers are. People there are quick to join up with strangers so you can see a lot of action.
As for Sundren, I haven't checked it out in depth so I can't provide too much info on it. But it is quite good.

Is Baldur's Gate like Khalidine in that you just join the forums then start playing? All the link gave me was a forum page.
Sundren looked interesting. One thing that attracted me is lots of scripted quests. I may give it a try, but not for at least a few days. |

You don't actually have to join the forums for either world. You can just go into MP and click on connect. I'm not registered on the Baldurs Gate boards. :)

I am trying out a new PW that is focused on RP heavily. The word is called Elements of Aesyr. I am amazed at the work and detail they have put into the world. Just need to log in with the proper nwn2 version and the server does all the updating through the game. That is slick. Its a very low level magic world so typically I find servers like this are heavy on the wizard and cleric builds to overcome the lack of magical items. So far the RP has been very good.

Thanks for the additional hint, Manwae. I have been off playing The Kitchen Boy and Misery Stone, so I haven't gotten around to trying a PW. And I'm off for a week in the sun in a week and a half. But sometime ...

Hi, All,
Well, after a long wait, I have been playing Sundren since June (with a vacation sandwiched in) and it looks pretty good. There seems to be a decently-sized player base, although the times I usually game are not the most populated. It is also very much a team-up world. Solo players will spend a lot of time getting killed and paying the XP penalty. At low levels, it is also highly geared to tank-types, Clerics especially. However, the people are friendly and RP is quite interesting and sometimes creative. A few days ago a couple of groups had to deal with a poo-flinging Evil Faerie for a while, a little different from the usual philosophical discussions and teaming-up. Anyway, if anyone's interested in a PW, it's worth a try. |
